Career

Ben started his catering career at the Druidston Hotel overlooking St Bride’s Bay; it was here that he met his wife, Ellie. Ben moved to Cardiff for 4 years before he and Ellie decided to return to the county of their birth where they wanted to bring up their children.

Ben was the chef at the Black Sheep in the High Street in Haverfordwest before moving to Romano’s, an Italian restaurant then located in the Shire Hall. From there Ben moved to the Swan in Little Haven before heading to Hammet House in Llechryd, Ceredigion, where he featured on a BBC TV programme.
Ben’s next Head Chef role was at Diablo’s in Narberth where he worked for 2 years before moving to Coco’s in Milford Docks. Ben’s passion is preparing exquisite food using local produce; his time at Coco’s enabled him to visit local farms to chat to farmers and identify what is available that could be used in his creations. That enabled Ben to obtain the Pembrokeshire Produce mark for Coco’s resulting in awards.

March 2020 brought Covid-19 and lockdown. Ben had always dreamed of starting his own business and furlough enabled him to make that dream a reality on April 10th, 2020, initially using the kitchen at Coco’s. When the hospitality industry reopened after lockdown Ben decided to leave Coco’s and start up on his own in what we now know as The Box by Ben Gobbi.

Evening Meals

When you are going out for a long day of “doing the tourist bit” what could be better than letting Ben provide your dinner – particularly great for special occasions if you have little ones and are unable to eat out in the evening. Or maybe you would like to have a meal waiting in the fridge on the day of your arrival so all you need to do is heat it through – we are happy to facilitate the delivery to the refrigerator in your cottage. The options are endless – all you need to do is decide what to eat, order online or over the phone (advising any dietary requirements) and let Ben and us do the rest. Meals are available Oven Ready or Plate Ready – the choice is yours.
